Chrest is a small and skinny, 5-foot-11, 170-pound righthander who mostly pitches in the upper 80s, but teams are excited about his future physical projection and what he could look like in five years. He’ll still be 18 on draft day and needs to add strength, but has shown impressive feel to spin a slider around 80 mph that is a go-to secondary offering. He has touched lower 90s but for the most part it’s below-average present velocity that should improve as he adds more weight and strength to his lean frame. Chrest is committed to Jacksonville.

School: Jacksonville Committed: Marlins ’22 (17)
Age At Draft: 21.5
Chrest enjoyed a stellar freshman season, going 8-2 with a 2.58 ERA and 98 strikeouts across 90.2 innings. Chrest moves well on the mound and attacks hitters from a three-quarter slot. His fastball sits in the 91-94 mph range and is at its best–and generates the most swing-and-miss–when located in the bottom half of the strike zone. Chrest’s heater flashes running and sinking life at times. He needs to continue to improve its shape. -
