Commit/Drafted: Alabama
Age At Draft: 18.9
BA Grade:45/Extreme
Tools:Hit: 50. Power: 45. Run: 55. Field: 50. Arm: 45.
Ewing started his 2022 summer with a bang by going off at PBR’s National Program Invitational, where he went 13-for-19 (.684) with three home runs. He continued performing at essentially every event he attended, and over 33 logged games with Synergy in 2022, Ewing hit .337/.452/.554 with four home runs and six doubles. Listed at 6-foot, 175 pounds, Ewing is small and thin, but he produces surprising power with impressive bat speed—particularly to the pull side. He starts his swing with a big leg kick, but keeps his upper half and hands fairly quiet during the pre-pitch sequence before firing his hands through the zone and looking to do damage to the pull side. He can get a bit pull-oriented overall, and needs to do a better job with pitches on the outer half and use the entire field, though evaluators with more history of Ewing have noted his ability to do that as an underclassman. Ewing is an above-average runner and a solid defender, though he profiles more naturally as a second baseman in the long run than at shortstop. His actions in the middle infield are fine, but he throws with reasonable effort on the left side of the infield, which might make him a better fit for second. Ewing’s overall power and impact is a question given his size, but he certainly impressed as a lefty bat with pop and opened eyes with his energetic style of play. He’s committed to Alabama.
