Sims has the look of a pitcher who could one day have a fastball at the top of the 20-80 scouting scale. He’s 6-foot-7 and still has a ton of space to fill out, with long, whippy arm speed to throw a fastball that’s up to 95 mph. There’s upper-tank velocity in his future with the potential to throw 100 mph, attacking hitters with downhill angle from his high slot. There’s some aptitude to spin a slider and he will mix in an occasional firm changeup, but the fastball is his predominant pitch to overpower hitters. Typical of any extra long-limbed pitcher his age, Sims is still learning to sync up his delivery to throw more strikes, but he has made strides in the right direction with that over the past year.
