  Conover was a reliever at Seton Hall in 2021 and 2022. He posted a 5.73 ERA in 2022, but he pitched well in the Cape Cod League that summer and became a 20th-round pick of the Tigers that year. He didn’t sign, instead transferring to Rutgers, where he worked primarily as a starter, finishing with a 4.50 ERA in 68 innings and an 83-45 K-BB mark. Conover throws a high-spin fastball that rests at 91-95 mph as a starter and can reach 97. It’s a long, winding arm action and a crossfire delivery into a low three-quarter slot that helps him generate a lot of arm-side run to his fastball. His mechanics make it difficult for him to repeat his release point though, with high walks that have been a problem whether he’s been a starter or a reliever. Conover’s slider is the pitch that makes him most appealing. It’s 81-85 mph and he can spin it in the 2,900-3,000 rpm range, flashing above-average at times with sharp bite and around 14 inches of horizontal break, along with a hard cutter with shorter break. He should return to a relief role in pro ball.
