One of the more impressive athletes in the college class thanks to a strong power and speed combination at 6-foot-3, 213-pounds, Beck looks the part of a big league slugger now. In his first full season with Tennessee in 2021, Beck slashed .271/.336/.523 with 15 home runs, 16 doubles and eight stolen bases in nine tries (88.9%). He didn’t see that power translate to a wood bat in the Cape Cod League during the 2021 summer, where he hit just two home runs and slashed .267/.377/.400 in 27 games with Harwich. Beck came out of the gates hot during the 2022 season and impressed scouts with his impact ability and usage of the right-center gap. However, as the season progressed, Beck’s performance dipped, and his swing-and-miss issues became more apparent. Despite being the three-hole hitter for Tennessee, Beck was one of the team’s worst pure hitters and his .248 SEC average through 31 games was the second-worst mark of any Volunteer hitter with at least 50 at-bats. He has a long bat path and will expand the zone, and some scouts thought he looked like too much of a guess hitter at times. He did crush fastballs and offspeed offerings but struggled with spin and because of that his hit tool is a question mark. His secondary tools are not, as Beck is an above-average runner with easy plus raw power (his exit velocities are among the best in the class) and a strong throwing arm that would allow him to profile as a prototypical right fielder.

BA Grade: 50/High
Track Record: Beck developed into one of the best power hitters in college baseball as a Tennessee junior in 2022. The Rockies drafted him 38th overall in the supplemental first round that year and signed him for an above-slot $2.2 million. He slid down the board in part because he faded late in 2022 during Southeastern Conference play, hitting just .252 with a 28% strikeout rate. Beck debuted after the draft and reached Low-A Fresno. He began 2023 with High-A Spokane and struggled over his first few weeks before catching fire. He was promoted to Double-A Hartford following the all-star break and spent 50 games with the Yard Goats. Beck finished the season with 25 home runs and 20 stolen bases, one of eight minor leaguers to reach both thresholds.
Scouting Report: An impressive athlete with a strong, explosive build and quick-twitch mechanisms, Beck’s offensive approach is based on power hitting and getting on base. He’s a below-average contact hitter who swings and misses in-zone at a high rate. His swing decisions are above-average, limiting some of his hit tool risk. He’s a plus power hitter who gets to his power in games. He makes his best contact at good launch angles and shows the ability to backspin balls to his pull side. He’s an above-average runner with the ability to handle center field. His long, fluid strides allow him to cover ground in the outfield. He’s likely to fit long term in a corner, where he can be above-average with an above-average throwing arm.
The Future: Beck is a power hitter with an on-base-focused profile with athleticism and tools that translate to the outfield. He looks like an average everyday regular with 30-home run upside. He should spend much of 2024 in the upper minors.

BA Grade/Risk: 50/High
Track Record: Beck developed into one of the better power-hitting college prospects in the country during his three seasons with Tennessee. He entered 2022 as one of the highest-rated draft-eligible college position players and hit .298/.391/.595 with 18 home runs in 66 games. He struggled against Southeastern Conference competition, hitting just .248 in SEC play. The Rockies selected Beck with the 38th overall pick and signed him for an above-slot $2.2 million. He made his pro debut in the Arizona Complex League before a promotion to Low-A Fresno over the final weeks of the 2022 season.
Scouting Report: A physically gifted player, Beck was one of the top athletes in the 2022 college draft class. He has a strong, physical frame with natural strength and explosiveness throughout his game. Beck's early professional returns have shown average bat-to-ball skills, scouts have concerns around his ability to hit quality pitching. His swing and bat path drive these concerns because he has a tendency to impact the ball at too steep an angle, leading to popups and weakly hit fly balls. His swing is heavily hands-driven and lacks adjustability due to a long, extended hand load and a longer uppercut swing path that's too stiff to turn on pitches in on his hands. Beck struggled against spin as an amateur and that trend continued as a professional. Despite these concerns, Beck possesses some of the best game power in the Rockies' system with notable exit velocities. Defensively, Beck profiles as an above-average defender in an outfield corner, with above-average running ability and an above-average arm.
The Future: Beck offers a prototype power-hitting corner outfield profile. If he can make incremental improvements to his bat-to-ball skills and approach he should develop into an average corner outfielder.
