Commit/Drafted: Georgia Tech Age At Draft: 18 A 6-foot, 180-pound outfielder and lefthanded hitter, Drake stands out for his impressive athleticism and loud tool set. He’s an 80-grade runner who also has plus raw power from the left side, though scouts wondered about his offensive approach and pure hitting ability. He was one of the most impressive hitters at the 2023 MLB Draft Combine, where he showed quick, twitchy hands and a compact stroke that led to loud hits during the high school game and consistently impressive rounds of batting practice. He has tended to show a heavy pull-side approach in games, and will try to yank pitches down the right field line without much of a plan at the plate. If he’s able to improve that approach and use the opposite field more naturally, he has the sort of power/speed combination to be an impactful offensive player. Defensively, his speed alone should give him a chance to be a plus defensive center fielder, but like his offensive game, he also needs to improve his routes, reads and instincts. He is committed to Georgia Tech and is young for the class—he turns 18 just a few days after the draft.

Organization Prospect Rankings
BA Grade: 45/Extreme
Track Record: Drake ranked as the No. 215 prospect in the 2023 draft class and signed an over-slot deal with the Braves for $747,500 in the fifth round. Drake performed well in 11 games in the MLB Draft League and was also a standout at the pre-draft combine, but struggled in a brief 18-game pro debut after signing. He hit .221/.312/.279 with a 37.7% strikeout rate in the Florida Complex League.
Scouting Report: Drake is a lean, athletic outfielder who stands out for his raw tools more than his baseball polish presently. He has shown above-average raw power with fast hands through the zone, though his approach is rudimentary as he can get overly pull-happy and also has real swing-and-miss questions. He was one of the better runners in the 2023 draft class and has top-of-the-scale, 80-grade speed that should allow him to terrorize opposing batteries and give him a chance to be an impactful defender in center field. Like his offensive game, Drake needs to refine his defense and base running, as his jumps, reads and routes can all be inconsistent.
The Future: Drake was young for the class and will be in just his age-18 season in 2024 when he’ll get his first extended taste of pro ball. His tools and natural athleticism give him upside, but the Braves might need to be patient as he develops.
